Impact of STEM in Wisconsin

In Wisconsin and around the world, STEM has the power to help people invent solutions to current challenges. Ultimately, communities improve when students apply STEM skills to solve relevant issues.

STEM-conversant graduates help states compete in the global economy. These "high-tech" fields are engines of economic development, with the potential to lift standards of living and bolster economic security for generations of Wisconsinites. Experts believe STEM-related job openings in Wisconsin will more than double between 2008 and 2018, and that in the 21st century all careers will require some facility with STEM.

Many societal and global problems will require today's students to ingeniously apply STEM knowledge. Thus will be generated future breakthroughs in arenas such as environment and energy, health and wellness, information technology and communications.
